SoftEditSrf

Moves the surface area surrounding the selected point smoothly relative to the distance from selected point.

Editing is done by moving the selected point. This location on the surface is moved, and the move is smoothly tapered off with increasing distance along the surface from this point.

Steps:

  1. Select

    a surface.

  2. Click a base point.

  3. Pick a point to move to.

  4. Press Enter

    to end the command.

Notes

  • The selection point snaps to the closest edit point.

  • Corresponding control points of the curve/surface are moved.

Options:

U_Distance/V_Distance

Distance in the u- or v-direction influenced by the move.

ShrinkTrimmedSrf

Contracts the underlying untrimmed surface close to trimming boundaries.

Steps:

  • Select

    trimmed surfaces.

  • Trimmed surfaces
are represented by an untrimmed surface with trimming boundaries. When textures are applied to surfaces, the textures map to the underlying untrimmed surface. Sometimes the underlying untrimmed surface is much larger than the trimmed surface, resulting in only a small portion of the texture showing up in the rendering.

To fix this, the ShrinkTrimmedSrf command shrinks the underlying untrimmed surface in order to make it as small as possible, resulting in the maximum amount of the texture map displaying in the rendering.

You will see no visible change in the surface. Only the underlying untrimmed surface alters.

Note: Shrinking a surface is like extending
smoothly, only backwards. Knots
of full multiplicity are added where you want the surface to be cut off. Then the remaining control points
are thrown away.

ShrinkTrimmedSrfToEdge

Contracts the underlying untrimmed surface as close as possible to the trimming boundaries.

This can sometimes cause problems later since having the edges so close to the trimming boundaries can cause commands that use the surface edges as input to fail.

Steps:

  • Select

    trimmed surfaces.

SrfSeam

Changes the location on a closed surface where the start and end edges of the surface meet.

Steps:

  1. Select

    a closed surface.

  2. The seam of the surface is indicated by a curve.

  3. Click to pick a new location for the seam point.

Options

Note: Options are only available if the surface is closed in two directions (such as a torus).

U

Changes the seam in the u-direction.

V

Changes the seam in the v-direction.

Both

Changes the seam in both u- and v-directions.
